Congratulations to Mark Dawe who has won the 2024 Hampshire PGA Order of Merit. Mark Dawe has been playing a number of PGA events this summer. Mark has been able to accumulate one win, six 2nd place finishes and four 3rd place finishes. We are very proud of Mark and all that he has achieved.
AGM
This is a reminder that The Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday the 14th of November and will begin at 7pm. To be environmentally friendly we will not be providing printed copies of any paperwork for distribution at the AGM. You should have received the agenda in the previous email that was sent. If you would like a question answered, please email it to us before 4th November 2024. If you would like a copy of the accounts, please advise Fred Gordon by email at info@chilworthgolfclub.com and a copy will be forwarded to you.
Greenkeeping
The greenkeeper would very much appreciate it if all members would please use the path provided when leaving the 18th green rather than cutting across the 10th fairway especially when making their way to the 1st tee.
As we transition into the winter months, we want to share some important updates on our ongoing maintenance and improvements.
Top Dressing and Seeding Disease Scars
We’ve been busy top dressing and seeding by hand those areas affected by disease. This process will restore the health and appearance of the greens.
Drainage Improvements on the 7th
Our efforts on the 7th hole have proven effective! The freshly repaired pipes and drains are already showing positive results, helping to manage water flow and reduce standing water during rainy periods.
Plant Maintenance
We’ve also dedicated time to maintaining the plants surrounding the lake by the 2nd hole. This work not only enhances the aesthetics but also improves pace of play by reducing the carry required to get over the lake.
Bridge Repairs on the 6th
The bridge on the 6th hole has been successfully repaired, improving both safety and accessibility. Thank you for your patience during this project!
New Flood Lighting Installations
We are excited to announce the installation of telegraph poles on the top bays of the range. These will be installed with new flood lights which will shine on the range as well as the car park. This upgrade will enhance visibility and allow golfers to use the top bays in the darker hours.
Volunteer Efforts
A big thank you to our volunteers Mike Rich and Kempton Cannon who have been making and painting marker posts across the course. Your hard work is greatly appreciated and makes a significant difference in our community. We would also like to thank Richard Robaczynski and Graham Dodsworth for the huge amount of time they have dedicated for the golf club. We also would not want to forget and thank all the members who freely give up their time to help on the club committees.
We will be removing one of the conifers to the left of the 18th green. Whilst it is a shame to remove any trees, it does cause shade over the green and does not promote good healthy growth.
We appreciate your continued support as we work to enhance your experience.
Club Clothing
Every few months we put in an order for club clothing. If you would like to purchase some club attire, please put your name on the noticeboard before the 10th November 2024 to guarantee you are including in the upcoming order. Payment to be made (at the counter) at the time of ordering.
Greensomes Competition & Cream Tea
On Sunday the 29th of September we held a Greensomes Competition and Cream Tea. Seven pairs took part with the winners being Graham Dodsworth and Chris Dunn.
After the round, the participants enjoyed a cream tea.
Winter Eclectics
The Winter Eclectic for all sections across the club are due to begin on the 1st of November. These will be all be held on the back nine holes as this should make it easier in winter conditions.
Handicaps will be ½ of your back 9 handicap. The total amount of cards that can be submitted for this competition will be 8.
Entry fees will be £5 per person which must be paid prior to your first round. Once paid, the counter staff should give you a transaction receipt which please keep hold of as proof of payment. Any entries in the book for which we do not have a till payment recorded will not be included in the competition.
These competitions will run until the 31st of March 2025.

This is a reminder that Ann Morris will be holding a Christmas Wreath making class at Thornden School on Tuesday the 3rd of December. Tickets are £10.00 per person. Ann has kindly agreed to use the money generated to be added to the Club charity Jane Scarth House as she did last year. This was a substantial contribution to our fund-raising efforts.
If you would like to join Ann in making a Christmas wreath, please give her a call on 02380 262342.

On Friday the 18th of October The Kitchen hosted another quiz night for our members and their guests. This was hugely successful and all enjoyed the excellent food as well as putting their brains to the test!
