Greenkeeping

As we move through autumn, the greenkeeping team continues to maintain and improve the course. Last week, the tee boxes were overseeded and fertilised. Following this, we are beginning to see the seed germinate. Therefore, we will temporarily be teeing off the mats to allow the new grass to establish. If you should see anyone using the grass tees then please contact the shop so we can deal with it appropriately.

Due to bee activity, some of the bunkers have been marked as Ground Under Repair (GUR) which is indicated with white paint. Please avoid the marked areas until further notice.

Recently, work has also been carried out on the course lakes as part of our ongoing efforts to improve their overall health and condition. The lakes have been de-silked and dredged to improve the water quality.

Maintaining healthy greens remains a key priority, particularly as we move into the cooler and wetter months when turf diseases can become more prevalent.

To help manage the risk of disease associated with switching greens, we have commenced our annual preventative treatment programme. This should remove the dew from the greens as well as help avoid the spreading of disease.

Progress continues with the development of the new hole. The base has now been constructed, and we are awaiting the delivery of topsoil before moving on to the next stage of the project. Once the soil is in place, further work can begin to develop the area further.

We are currently trialling our new irrigation system, which has the potential to make a significant difference to the efficiency of our daily greenkeeping operations.

At present, watering the greens is a particularly time-consuming task. The existing process requires a tap beside each individual green to be turned on, with each green receiving approximately ten minutes of watering before the tap is switched off and the team moves on to the next. This takes several hours to complete, reducing the time available for other essential course maintenance duties. The new irrigation system is designed to simplify this process considerably. Instead of manually watering each green individually, the system would allow us to operate a single tap to water all the greens simultaneously. This would save valuable time, to focus more attention on other areas of the course.

Looking ahead to next week, we are also hoping to begin cutting back the hedges, in further effort to improve the appearance of the course and maintain the surrounding boundaries.

The grass bunker on the 17th is no longer GUR and is now in play. Should your ball end up in the bunker, you are required to play it as it lies.

Quiz Night

Our latest quiz night took place on Friday 25th September, with eight teams and a total of 39 participants putting their knowledge to the test and competing for some fantastic prizes. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, as well as some new ones, joining us for the evening.

Guests enjoyed a choice of delicious Lasagne or Chicken and Chips, which went down a treat. There were plenty of laughs throughout the evening, with our quizmaster, Chris Gosney, keeping everyone entertained.

Mr Cooper’s team of six took the top spot, winning a £30 M&S gift voucher each. With the festive season approaching, the vouchers will be perfect for picking up some Christmas treats! As always, there were also prizes for the teams finishing in second and third place. It was a fantastic evening, and it was lovely to see everyone having such a great time.  A total of £360 was given out to the winning teams!

A huge thank you to everyone who continues to support these events and make them such a success. We look forward to welcoming you all to another social evening soon!

Gift Vouchers

We stopped selling Gift Vouchers early this year with a six-month use by expiry date.  Please be aware that on the 1st of January 2027, we will no longer be accepting back any of our gift vouchers. If you do have gift vouchers to use, please ensure this is done before the end of the year. There will be not extensions on this date.

White Tees

As we have now completed all medal competitions, the white tees will not be used for the winter. All members are asked to refrain from using the white tee boxes to allow them to grow ready for next year.

Checking In

All members and visitors are required to check in at the front desk at least 20 minutes before their tee time. This gives staff working in the shop the opportunity to assess whether each player has the correct attire and that all players have their own bags.

If a guest is arriving to play a round with a member, who has not checked in, we are unable to extend the Members Guest rate.

Ladies’ vs Ambassadors

On Monday 21st September, our Ladies and Ambassadors went head-to-head in their annual match for the Trophy.

With our Ladies section continuing to grow, the Ambassadors certainly had their work cut out for them! Several of the games were closely contested, making for an exciting and competitive match.

After some fantastic play from both sides, the Ambassadors continued their winning streak, securing the Trophy with a final score of 4-3.

CMGC Christmas Meal

We are hosting our annual Christmas Lunch on Friday the 4th of December 2026. This will begin at 1pm and is open to members, their families and friends.
