Greenkeeping
This month, our team has been busy ensuring the course remain in the best condition possible. While cutting slows down during the winter period, the greenkeepers have been hard at work with other jobs to improve and maintain the golf course. We’ve fed the greens with a winter feed to keep them healthy through the colder months. After recent flooding, we repaired the path on the 2nd to restore safe access. Additionally, we’ve identified and cleared more drains to improve overall drainage on the course.
Storm damage required us to clean up multiple trees, ensuring both safety and aesthetic appeal on the course. Lastly, we’ve cut back the hedge running from the carpark to the 1st tee to enhance ease of access.
As always, we are committed to maintaining the course for your enjoyment.
General Progress
As a part of our endeavour to continuously improve the club and the facilities that our members use, we have made a couple of notable alterations in a hope to improve the atmosphere and enjoyment while at the club. The first of these is with regards to the changing rooms. In the past few weeks, we have installed new electric radiators in both changing rooms. This has now provided these areas with a much need source of heat to make using the space more comfortable.
Another notable change is that we have now relocated the trophy cabinet. After your feedback on the survey, it was concluded that the cabinet was in desperate need of moving as it was not visible at the top of the stairs. The cabinet has now been installed in the pro shop for all to see. We have also moved the competition results board next to the cabinet to differentiate the results from the general club notices.
Handicap Review
As part of our commitment to maintaining a fair and competitive environment, we have conducted our Annual Handicap Review. This review ensures that all members’ handicaps are up to date, reflecting their current form and performance on the course. The review will be considering scores from the past year, with adjustments being made where necessary to align handicaps with actual playing ability. If you should have and questions or concerns regarding your handicap, please speak to Chris Gosney the handicap secretary.
Qualifying Competition Report
Earlier this year, you may be aware that we were looking into emailing members quarterly with the number of qualifying competitions they had played in. However, after some investigation, we found that this would not be as easy as we thought. As a result, it has been agreed that rather than emailing we would be posting this information on the competition notice board.
Christmas Lunch
This year the Christmas Lunch was a festive gathering attended by 41 people, bringing together members, friends and family to celebrate the holiday season. The event featured a delicious spread of traditional Christmas dishes enjoyed by all. The atmosphere provided by The Kitchen @ was warm and welcoming, with decorations adding to the festive spirit. Thank you to all who attended, and we hope you enjoyed the meal.
Ladies & Ambassadors Christmas Scramble
The Ladies and Ambassadors Christmas Scramble was a festive and engaging event that brought together a mix of our Ladies and Ambassadors sections for a fun filled day. The participants started off by enjoying a 3-ball scramble competition over the back nine holes. This was organised as a shotgun start with at least one group on each tee box. Congratulations to Helen Campbell, Jeff Mussell and Derek Lowe who were the overall winners of the Scramble.
After the round, all participants were treated to a warm mince pie and tea/coffee provided by The Kitchen @. They also took part in a quiz which contained a mix of general knowledge and golf related questions. The quiz was ultimately decided by a tie breaker with Sue Dunlop, Peter Anderson and David Gray taking the win.
Thank you to all who took part, and we hope you had a good day.
Charity
This year, we as a club have been raising money for Jane Scarth House. As the year is now ending, we have counted up all the funds raised, and we are pleased to announce that we have raised a total of £1,362.50 so far. This included a huge donation of £570 from Ann Morris who again this year, ran a wreath making class with the aim of raising money to go towards the Jane Scarth House donation. Ann, again, thank you for this generous donation.
Season’s Greetings and Happy New Year
As we approach the festive season, the team at Chilworth Members Golf Club would like to extend our warmest wishes to all our members and their families. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. We hope you have a joyful peaceful and healthy holiday, filled with good cheer and great company.
We look forward to another year of memorable rounds, friendly competition, and enjoyment on the course. Please look at the Fixture List which is on the Competition Notice Board to see what you can enter!
