Greenkeeping

The 17th bunker has for a long time been a problem due to erosion of the face and the continual rising of stones. Therefore, the decision has been made to fill in the bunker with soil and to make it a swale. This will allow for easier management of the terrain to help maintain better conditions for this hole.

Work has continued throughout the summer on developing the new hole. The greenkeepers have begun to cut the grass to shape the definitions of the hole. The tee box has also now been built and will be seeded in the coming months. This work will not be completed by the end of the year and will continue into 2026.

As part of an ongoing project, we are currently working on raising the crowns of the trees around the golf course. This is to allow the mowers passage underneath to cut the long grass and reduce the rough. It was felt that the punishment caused by both the rough and the trees was too great on golfers. This will also aid in helping with pace of play.

Recently, we have installed new signage around the golf course. These signs are to aid golfers in navigating the course. We hope that this will help both with pace of play as well as directing golfers to the correct holes to avoid confrontations with golfer who are on the wrong hole.

Charity Bunker

Due to the work being carried out on the 17th bunker, we currently do not have a Club nominated charity bunker to aid in our fund raising for The Alzheimer’s Society. Therefore, a decision has been made by the committee to move the charity bunker to the 18th greenside bunker. A sign has been mounted on the edge of the bunker to advise those who are playing of this. We ask that all members respect this and donate should you go into the bunker.

Chilworth Members Open Day

We are again looking to host an Open Day here at Chilworth Members Golf Club. This will be held on Saturday the 18th of July 2026. This is open to both members and visitors, and we are hoping that this will give members a chance to bring a team. There is a limit of one Chilworth member per team. This will be a Bowmaker format which is a stableford competition with the best 2 scores out of 3 being counted per hole.

Tea or coffee on arrival and an ‘all you can eat’ buffet provided after the round is completed. At this time, prizes will also be distributed to the winning teams.

The cost will be £32.00 with full members paying £22.00. To sign-up, please speak to the counter staff who will provide you with a form to enter your team and make payment.

 Quiz Night

On the 26th of September we held another of our bimonthly quiz nights. There were 70 quizzers in attendance all racking their brains together to try to come out as this month’s champions.

Congratulations to the Wonky Putters team who come out victorious with each player winning a £30.00 voucher. Prizes were also given out to second and third place to a total value of £360.00.

Thank you to all those who attended and we hope you enjoyed the evening.

 Ladies’ vs Ambassadors

This year’s Club Trophy Match between the Ladies and the Ambassadors took place on Tuesday the 16th of September. This was a 4BBB match play competition with each team consisting of 2 Ladies against 2 Ambassadors.

All matches were closely fought with the Ambassadors come out of the match victorious by a score of 3 – 2.
As we had a large number of Ambassadors sign up who could not play in the Ladies Match, we decided that the staff would play against them. This was a stupid decision, as the staff lost, leaving us to contemplate whether the staff should have less time working and more time playing golf!

After the round, all players enjoyed a selection of sandwiches as well as a delicious cake.

AGM

This year’s Annual General Meeting date has moved from the 16/11/2025 to the 27/11/2025. The start time remains the same with the meeting commencing at 7pm.
