June 2025 Newsletter
CHARITY
Please remember that the 17th Bunker is the designated charity bunker if you land in this bunker a donation in the charity box on the counter would be most appreciated.
QUIZ
We are pleased to say that we have had another very successful quiz evening where prizes of £330 were won. Congratulations to all winning teams! We have been asked by many to hold another Quiz which will be on the 25th July 2025. Please sign up and pay at the counter. This time the food will be chicken and chips. The only change to this menu is if you have specific dietary requirements. Price per person £20.
GREENKEEPING
The hot weather has been challenging for staff who are spending a lot of hours watering, and it looks as though it is going to get even hotter! The greenkeeping staff would very much appreciate it if all players could please repair their pitch marks and any others they see – this would mean they are able to spend more time carrying out more essential jobs like watering!!!
The new hole has had topsoil added and been seeded and the tees have been fed. The greenkeepers have been particularly pleased with our robot which has been on loan to the Club as a trial.
PACE OF PLAY
For the enjoyment of all, as a club, we are focusing on and emphasizing the importance of pace of play. We did put this in our last Newsletter and to summarise Pace Golf allows for a round of 18 holes to last a maximum of 4 hours.
We did try an experiment with our Ambassadors Group last Tuesday and whilst we did receive many comments before they went out, we are delighted to say that the fastest group finished in 3hours 26 minutes and the slowest group 3 hours 54 minutes. It was great to see that all playing were checking their watches and being aware.
These issues are of utmost importance to us. We want everyone to enjoy their round of golf at Chilworth and typically it can be just one person or one group that can spoil the experience for many people.
CLUB COMPETITIONS
We are now in the second round of our Knock Out’s with the deadline for this approaching on the 22nd of June. The third-round deadline will be 20th July 2025. Please try to get these played sooner rather than later – the holiday season is approaching, and it is a shame to decide a match on the toss of a coin.
The deadline for Club Championship entries is the 2nd of July so please get signed up. We are also looking for volunteers to help on the day – please let the counter know if you are able to help.
EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS
We played the second round of the Kindred Cup at South Winchester but we lost 4-1 however, it was a very enjoyable day and we were treated to sandwiches and chips after our round.
Our ambassadors played a friendly match against East Horton at home on the 18th of June. We are pleased to report that our ambassadors won by a score of 3 ½ to 2 ½.
OPEN COMPETITIONS
There will be a Ladies and Seniors Open Day held on Friday the 11th of July 2025.
Weekend Open Day on the Saturday 12th of July 2025.
The format for both days will be a 3 Ball Bowmaker with tee times being allocated. All participants must have an official WHS handicap.
Sign-ups would be accepted in teams with each team having no more than one Chilworth member. The cost is £30.00 per person (members £20.00 per person plus green fees if applicable). Sign-up and pay at the counter. This is an excellent opportunity to invite your friends.
The Weekend Open Day is filling up, but we still do our Ladies and Ambassadors to bring teams to the Friday Open Day.
There will be coffee on arrival and a buffet when you come in together with some great prizes.
STAFF -V- MEMBERS COMPETITION
We have had a suggestion of running a staff versus members competition, before we look at what format we would play we need to ascertain numbers. If you are interested in taking part please put your name on the list at the counter. We are looking at a date in September.
CLUB CLOTHING
If you would like a club shirt, please put your name on the list on the noticeboard and pay at the counter.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
As mentioned in our previous email, you have two weeks left to renew your membership. Memberships expire at the end of this month. If you have not done so already, please renew before the 1st of July 2025. If you do not renew before this date your membership will expire and you will be resigned as a member of Chilworth on the WHS system.
If you are an existing seven-day member and you have not renewed by 1st July 2025 you will be unable to do so as your membership will be allocated to somebody on the waiting list.
We have allocated more staff on the dates below to smoothen out the process of renewing. If you are looking to renew, we ask that you please do it on one of the below dates if possible.
Weekdays
Thursday 19th June (10am – 3pm)
Tuesday 24th June (10am – 3pm)
Thursday 26th June (10am – 3pm)
Weekends
Saturday 21st June (10am – 1pm)
Saturday 28th June (10am – 1pm)
Sunday 29th June (10am – 1pm)
Please allow plenty of time before you play to complete the membership form. We do have membership dedicated staff on these dates so if you wish to review which membership is best for you, we can spend the time looking at the most beneficial option.
It will still be possible to renew your membership on other dates, however, it can be more difficult for us to process especially when we are very busy. We also may not have to appropriate staff in to answer any questions you may have.
GENERAL
We are pleased to say that we have had a lot of new members join the Club who we wish to welcome to Chilworth. We are also receiving very good feedback about the course from many golfers which is always good to hear.
