August 2025 Newsletter

Memberships

Thank you to everyone who has renewed their membership and a very warm welcome to our new members too! We are pleased to report we have had a very heathy membership renewal.

Greenkeeping

We would like to start by thanking our greenkeeping staff, as well as the members who continue to volunteer their time to help uphold and improve our golf course. Special thanks go to Richard Robaczynski for the support he has given with watering the greens and to Michael Rich for the time he has given to paint new marker posts to go around the course.

Due to the current drought, our team have found it challenging to maintain the condition of the golf course. A lot of work has been put in by both our greenkeeping staff and volunteers to try to keep up the standard of the golf course. During these hot and dry conditions, we have prioritised watering the greens in the evenings to avoid the water evaporating and to ensure the best penetration into the ground. This has unfortunately led to the tee boxes and fairways drying out. We will continue to strive to keep the golf course in the best condition possible.

As well as watering the greens every evening, we have also been verti-cutting the greens once a week. Our greenkeeping staff has also aerated the greens twice during these summer months. This work will hopefully help keep up the condition of our greens to ensure the best playing standard for our members.

In anticipation of the winter months, the greenkeepers have been putting time into looking at the drainage around the golf course making sure that all is functioning as expected to keep the course open as much as possible. As part of this work, we have repaired broken pipes all around the course. Specifically, a large pipe which runs down the 4th fairway. We have also cleared out a lot of the ditches around the course to ensure the water can run unhindered.

The excess material we have removed from the ditches has now been moved to the new hole. This will be used to construct the new tee box. We have also begun the process of constructing the new green. This has now been seeded, watered and cut a number of times. We will continue to work towards getting the hole completed as soon as possible.

As some of you may have noticed, we have removed a couple of trees from the left-hand side of the 5th hole. These trees had died and therefore have been cut down and disposed of.

Course Marshall

We would like to confirm that Dave Belton our previous Club Marshall is no longer working for us at Chilworth. He is now here purely here to play and enjoy his golf, so please do not approach him to sort out any issues on the Course!  Thank you, Dave, for all your hard work doing a very difficult job!

Graham Dodsworth, an existing member of staff, is now Course Marshalling in peak periods and at random times. Some of his responsibilities while Marshalling is to ensure members are starting on the correct tee, and at the correct time. To minimize the amount that Graham must deal with, Members will each be provided a scorecard with the date you are playing so please do come and check in.

Graham has been provided with a camcorder which is always recording to ensure his safety and wellbeing as well as that of the members. He also has a tablet which displays the tee sheet. This will allow him to efficiently manage the course. If you have not checked in you will be asked to return to the shop prior to your round to do so. If you haven’t allowed enough time to reach the tee and tee off in plenty of time, you may be asked to wait until the next available tee slot.

Checking in

All members and visitors are required to check in at the front desk at least 20 minutes before their tee time. This gives staff working in the shop the opportunity to assess whether each player has the correct attire and that all players have their own bags.

All members who have not been checking in before their tee time have been marked down as a NO-SHOW. If Members continue to not check in, they will have the right to pre-book a tee time removed.

Chilworth Members Open Day

We are pleased to say that we received great feedback following our Chilworth Open Day. On arrival all players received a golf goodie bag with golf balls and other gifts.

Thank you to all who participated as well as the great feedback we received regarding the condition of the course and the delicious buffet at Charlie’s. Everybody was also very impressed that the winning teams went away with prizes totalling £360.00!
