June newsletter 2026
Chris Gosney
We would like to show our appreciation for Chris Gosney who has now been working at Chilworth for 20 years. Throughout his time here, Chris has committed an enormous amount of time into making the club the best it can be. Without him, we would not be in to position we are in now. As a man of all trades, Chris has worked in all areas at the Club and have provided his help regardless of what needs to be done. We are very grateful to have a worker like Chris as a valued member of our staff.
Greenkeeping
Winter rules are no longer in effect as from the 6th of June 2026. All golfers must play the ball as it lies when on closely mown areas.
You may have noticed that we are in the process of renovating our 6th medal tee. The plan is for the teeing area to be expanded and flattened out to create a larger and more consistent surface to tee off from.
During the dry spell, our staff have been working hard to maintain the water level of the greens. This has meant watering practically every day to ensure the greens continue to be in good health. We have also begun watering the tee boxes to try and make them softer and heathier while also being better to play off.
All this work wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our volunteers. We are very appreciative of the members who dedicate their time to help improve the golf club. This also allows the greenkeepers time to complete other jobs around the club.
Membership renewal
We would firstly like to welcome all the new members who have recently joined, if you have any queries please talk to the counter staff.
As you may be aware, membership renewal is coming up at the end of the month. Prices can be found on the poster in the pro shop or on the email sent out to all members. We ask that members renew as soon as possible to make processing memberships easier on our staff. As from the 1st of July, if you have not renewed your membership, you will be charged a green fee for each round played until you start your membership.
For those who wish to renew their seven-day membership please could you do this before the 22nd of June when we will be allowing some of the people on our waiting list to fill any spaces that are available.
If you are unsure which membership would be best for you, we can look at how much you’ve played to help you make this decision.
If you have any questions regarding memberships, please speak to Luke or Tayla who can assist you with this.
Vouchers
Please be aware, going forward we are no longer selling vouchers. Vouchers which have been purchased and that are still in date are still able to be redeemed up until December 2026. These can also be used toward your membership renewal this year.
Club Championships 2026
Sign-ups are now open for this years Club Championships. This competition will be held over 36 holes on Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th of July. The start time of this competition will be 13:00 on both days in the hope that this will encourage more members to participate.
We do hope that as many members as possible participate in this competition. It is an opportunity for all members to have a chance of winning something. The Club Champion will be the best gross score over the 36 holes but there will also be prizes for best nett over 36 holes together with both gross and nett on each of the individual days.
We will also be hosting our Ladies Club Championship on the 13th of July and the Ambassadors Club Championship on the 14th of July. Sign-up sheets will be available two weeks before the competition.
All players participating must have played in at least five qualifying competitions in the 12 months before the championships. We have a list at the counter if you want to check how many qualifying competitions you have played. There is still time to play some more if you need to!
